Institutionalised corruption, ie, corruption on a national basis. 88% opine there’s corruption in the lawcourts. And it’s on the increase. This cries out for a fundamental change in the method of nominating the judiciary. Legal ability is not just a matter of years since graduating and being conferred a warrant. The substance of it all squarely lies in the lawyer’s ability to fight cases, which requires legal immersion and efficient use of jurisprudence and study. Current nominations are the outcome of personal favours.
Justice must be seen to be done…..not just passing a verdict! That 88% believe there’s corruption in our lawcourts is more than abnormally enough to warrant a serious investigation into the judiciary’s capabilities. In those cases when members of the judiciary do not carry 100% confidence of the House, they should be impeached and made to resign!
