When it’s a matter of financial and economic issues, let’s waive aside politics and come down to earth. Some readers have asked Capt. Domenic Azzopardi what’s his pay and also commented that some pilots have business concerns. Well, if such practices do interfere with flying duties, steps should have been taken to stop them rightaway. Airmalta has been over 20 years under nationalist administation, and the managerial echelon has been chosen on grounds of political affiliation or loyalty. So it’s downright mismanagement which has crippled the national airline. The present British CEO hasn’t shown any outstanding managerial capability. Any nincompoop could have resorted to massive discharges. How many staff could be retained with his salary and that of his fine colleagues?
Tonio Fenech is an accountant by profession and has received his professional training with KMPG. He vowed he is incapable of managing an airline. Well, alone is too large a bite, but he should know that he would have qualified personnel to assist him to steer ahead. Financial statements have been drawn up over the years, and there is no excuse to hide the lack of managerial control over Airmalta. And it’s high time to send the EU lofties apacking. Overall, the EU is showing various signs of mismanagement. Can’t you notice the cracks?
