“Demmek mhux tajjeb għax int pufta”

Ma stajniex nemmnu lil għajnejna! Fl-aħħar sigħat saret sejħa urġenti ħafna għad-demm miċ-Ċentru tat-Trasfuzjoni tad-Demm. L-appell ixxandar mal-erbat irjieħ ta’ Malta u kienu bosta Maltin li resqu ‘l quddiem biex jagħtu d-demm għax kien hemm periklu serju li xi operazzjonijiet l-isptar ikunu posposti.

Dan huwa sinjal sabiħ tal-qalb ġeneruża tal-Maltin. Pero’ bqajna imbellħin u xxukjati b’dak li qrajna fis-sezzjoni tal-kummenti taħt l-aħbar li kif rappurtat fuq timesofmalta.com.

Ara xi qrajna:
“Kenneth Grima

I WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO HELP, BUT THEY DON’T ACCEPT MY BLOOD AS I AM GAY. I HAVE BEEN IN A STEADY RELATIONSHIP FOR 11 YEARS MARRIED WITH MY DUTCH PARTNER FOR 6 YEARS BUT STILL THEY DON’T ACCEPT MY BLOOD. I HAVE BEEN DOING HEALTH CHECKS EVERY YEAR LAST ONE LAST AUGUST EVERY THING GOOD BUT STILL THEY DON’T ACCEPT ME. IF THEY NEED ME I AM MORE THEN READY TO HELP.”

Once again if blood is being selected on the basis of sex, gender, race, religion, SEXUAL ORIENTATION and other ignorant ways how do you expect people to come forward? The message is clear, change your methods or stay put! Your argument about the risks of diseases in the selection process does NOT hold as all can be tested in a matter of hours and YES diseases does not discriminate only PEOPLE do! In other words are you stating that you do NOT test the blood being donated?? I hope me message will one day prevail!”

Possibbli li ċ-Ċentru tat-Trasfużjoni tad-Demm ta’ Malta għandu policy li ma jaċċettax demm minngħand l-omosesswali? Jekk hu veru dan, għaliex din id-diskrimazzjoni fuq bażi ta’ orjentazzjoni sesswali? X’għandhom dawn differenti minn bnedmin oħra adulti? Aħna dan nikkunndannawh bil-qawwa kollha!

Għadna ġejjin minn referendum li sewa €4 miljun biex ikollna dritt ċivili li hu d-divorzju, u issa nisimgħu b’ċuċata bħal din? Jista’ l-Ministru tas-Saħħa (li BTW kien wieħed minn dawk li ħareġ bil-qawwa kontra d-divorzju) jilluminana dwar għaliex omosesswali ma jistgħux jagħtu d-demm jekk inhuma adulti sani u mingħajr mardu u d-demm tagħhom jista’ jsalva l-ħajja ta’ bniedem ieħor? Jaqaw anke s-servizz tas-saħħa tagħna jridu joħorġu mill-Medju Evu?

Nistħajjel min hu nkargat ma jridx jieħu riskju li jgħaddi l-infezzjoni HIV lil xi pazjent u dan ifittex għad-danni. Sa hawn nifhimha. Li ħafna omosesswali huma promiskwi hu fatt u dawn huma ta’ riskju għalihom infushom u jekk jagħti l-każ li jagħtu d-demm. It-tikketta ta’ gay teħel ukoll jekk wieħed jiddefendi lilu nnifsu u jgħid li ilu f’relazzjoni monogama għal tul żmien.
Nittama li min hu nkargat mid-dipartiment tat-transfużjoni tad-demm mhux ser jassumi li d-demm ta’ nies eterosesswali hu aċċettabli mingħajr ħafna mistoqsijiet. Naħseb li Malta hi aktar aġġornata minn hekk imma f’pajjiżi xejn ma jiskantani.
Rigward l-HIV, aktar jinkwetawni l-kwantita’ ta’ rġiel żgħażagħ li qed jidħlu f’pajjiżna. Li l-personnel li jilqagħuhom jilbsu l-maskra u l-ingwanti tal-lastiku hu sew u sensibbli imma mhux biżżejjed għal infezzjonijiet oħra.

    sur Xuereb,

Il-virus ta’ l-AIDS ma jiflahx il-kesha tal-fridge li jzommu l-boroz tad-demm fihom u jigi nnattivit u ma jibqghax infettiv. Minbarra hekk, kull persuna tinghata check-up minn tabib qabel taghti d-demm u jekk il-persuna tkun high risk group jghidulha biex taghmel it-testijiet.

Lil hemm min dan kollu, ic-centru tat-trasfuzjoni tad-demm mhux suppost li jimpurtah x’orjentazzjoni sesswali ghandha persuna. Skond il-Mazzun hadd m’ghandu jimpurtah mill-orjentazzjoni sesswali ta’ persuna. Dik xi haga privata u f’idejn l-individwu u ghalhekk ahna assolutament kontra min juza lingwagg dispreggattiv bhal pufta.

Jekk issa ha nghixu f’pajjiz xi ftit sekulari minn qabel, iridu nipprovaw inkunu sekulari u toleranti f’kollox.

U haga ohra, sentejn ilu jien u habibti li hija omosesswali ukoll, morna nghatu d-demm, kollox kien sewwa, sakkem it-tabiba saqsitna individwalment jekk qattx kellna x’naqsmu ma persuna tal-istess sess… HEMM waqfet, u rghamiet l-cans li zewg persuni gay setghu jsalvaw hajja… jew tnejn… jew iktar. It-telf tad-demm u nies li jmutu minhabba nuqqas tad-demm huwa kollu TORT tal-”’ligijiet” banali. Barra min Malta gays jghatu id-demm, u hawn Malta JAHSBU li hija Specjali????

    • June 1, 2011 at 9:40 pm

Dan hu agir diskriminatorju u rridu naghmlu xi haga. Il-komunita’ gay trid tigbor dawn l-incidenti kollha u zzommhom, halli meta jasal il-waqt intemmghuhom lil min jigi ghal vot.

Fil-quċċata ta’ din il-paġna hemm ritratt ta’ kartellun li juri l-Prim Ministru Lawrenz Gonzi b’espressjoni intensa w miġbuda (din il-kampanja xejjħitu għaxar snin) u l-kelmiet: Vot Favur Iva. Vot Kontra jew Astensjoni Le. Astensjoni tfisser Le? Minn meta? Ma nafx ħaddieħor imma lil dan il-kittieb mhux li tbellagħlu r-rossa bil-labra kif ġieb u laħaq. Kemm trid tiekol bajd u ġobon, ħanini! (lil ċertu Charles Bayliss). Minnu li vot li ma rreġistrax għal xi raġuni jew oħra ma jgħoddx fil-għadda finali tal-voti. Imma, kif qed jiddikjara l-kartellun, dawk li ma vvutawx inqisuhom Le, dak juri biss determinazzjoni ddisprata, manipulattiva għall-aħħar.

There’s nothing wrong with being gay. However homosexuals are a high risk group for certain diseases and it’s safer to exclude them.

    • June 2, 2011 at 5:44 am

Promiscuous individuals are a high-risk group both if they are hetero- and homosexual, so homosexuals per se are not a high risk group. Here, at mazzun we like to make things clear. Screening can control promiscuous individuals.

No it can’t. HIV, HTLV, HEPC/B, CMV antibody titre take up to 3 months to show in the blood.

@M.Brincat: Għalhekk jistaqsu mistoqsijiet dwar il-partners sesswali fl-aħħar SITT xhur qabel tagħti d-demm.

I-inqas grupp li huwa f’riskju ta’ infezzjoni bl-HIV, u l-inqas grupp li fil-fatt huma infettati huma l-omosesswali nisa (liżbjani). Apparentement dan ma jiħduhx in konsiderazzjoni taċ-ċentru ta’ trasfużjoni. Ma jgħidux “jekk inti raġel u omosesswali”.

Waħda mill-mistoqsijiet li jistqsuk hija jekk kellekx iżjed minn partner sesswali wieħed fl-aħħar X xhur. Dan għax il-promiskwità toħloq riskju. Din il-mistoqsija hija tajba għal omosesswali u eterosesswali u għandha tkun biżżejjed, flimkien ma’ testijiet li jsiru dejjem. M’għandu jkun hemm ebda diskriminazzjoni dwar orjentazzjoni sesswali ladarba persuna mhix promiskwa u tgħaddi t-testijiet li jsiru.

To be fair, a number of health authorities discriminate in this way – and that includes the UK where minority rights are more respected. There is however a recent move to lift this ban in the UK.

I am not in a position to say whether freezing HIV-infected blood kills the virus. What is certain is that any blood is tested. It is at the stage when blood is accepted from a donor that the logistical nightmare begins.
Sexually promiscuous people are high risk as are drug-injectors. For their blood to be acceptable they have to prove they have been tested for HIV and must show they have been abstaining from sexual contact (or injection) since they were declared HIV-free. This is quite an undertaking considering people’s propensity to be economical with the truth and so on. The sexual orientation of the donor is neither here nor there.
If a batch of blood donated is tested and given the OK there is no guarantee that one blood sample is not a rogue, an infected sample. If course if there were a method of treating ALL blood we would not have a problem. We could accept any blood from any donor regardless and treat it by whatever method. This method exists through freezing according to some. I am not convinced. If freezing does de-contaminate blood, then we don’t have a problem.
The donors’ sexual orientation is immaterial. Promiscuity within the homosexual sub-culture has always been acceptable and often, expected. This because there is no fear of unwanted pregnancies and also as a reaction to oppression. As in ‘you oppress me so I’ll do it’ to spite you sort of thinking. This is easy because what could feel more natural than wanting to ‘fuck’. And our heterosexual brothers and sisters are well and truly on the same bandwagon. The problem with sex, as with anything, is that there is always a price to pay. Sex is pleasureable but also dangerous. The infections, wreaking havoc with our emotions. And we get older. See, all that and not a single word of religion forbidding this and that. This is why religious admonishments do not work. Practical problems need to be approached practically.

Time was at the beginning of this dreadful scourge – we’re talking early 80s – when it was noted that HIV was predominant in homosexual males and in California in particular. At the time it was reasonable to single out gay men as very high risk when it came to donate blood. Homosexuals’ donation was refused across the board whether they were promiscuous or not. If I’m not mistaken, an individual with a history of syphilis – straight or gay – was also rejected even if their syphilis had been cured. HIV was a gay epidemic. Prejudice was already in place and this was the last straw. It was indeed god’s punishment for promiscuity (not forgetting that in RC particularly, fucking is a sin so go figure. And the whole divorce debate is, as we say, ‘a marriage is on the rocks and the first signs start in the bedroom’. Hence the neurosis re: divorce, marriage and sex in general. As for homosexuality, don’t even go there! Sex is for procreation and anyone fucking and not having this in mind is a sinner……hell……the whole shebang. Of all the planet (inc. the Philippines) Maltese have to be the most screwed up people on earth. Catholic guilt. Promiscuity is often a rebellion against this which is playing into the hands of enemy church. Not unlike a child who is told not to…..and he does it more. We learn early. It is the survival instinct. I was saying……….it wasn’t long before it was realised that heteros carry the virus too so excluding gays was non-sensical. I believe they are still excluded which is unfair as they are no longer the only group that are risky donors. Techniques may change and improve. But old prejudices die hard.
